Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

A 5x5x2.5m (16x16x8ft) room doesn’t really work well with purely digital gimmicks, it’s basically a total disaster.
The rooms tend to be around 10x6x3m (33x20x10ft, up to 16ft) in size, and the system is meant to combine kitchen radio, dining room radio, and home theater.

In that context, the logic of having four corners with four speakers plus a center speaker, without a subwoofer, calibrated to the room, is not a bad approach.

Your car example isn’t a concert hall either; it’s a defined space for driving with music added on top.

Absolutely! And the argument that a house is inherently unsuitable for good sound would basically mean it’s better not to set anything up at all. I did consider the placement from the start and designed the living/TV area accordingly. The architect always shook her head in disbelief but would never think to compromise everything for it. It’s still a house to live in.

I got interested in car audio because of the systems mentioned by hampshire, found in many OEM amplifiers or radios, which are measured and corrected much more complexly. Yet, the best-sounding car system I know only used EQ with FIR filters.

Placing speakers in the corner is not necessarily the best acoustic solution… but it can work well for background music in the kitchen and dining area. The center speaker, on the other hand, is often highly overrated.
A 6x3 setup would be so-so again. 🙄

My intention was simply to point out that small acoustic improvements often bring much more benefit than replacing hundreds-of-dollar speakers with ones costing thousands, only to then try to adjust the sound afterward. Just enjoy it if it sounds good, but without proper acoustics, no matter how expensive the speakers were, there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Where are we here?
House photo thread, or home theater room?

It's all part of it.
No one complains when moss art, DIY lamps, electrical cabinets, etc. are shown either.

Control panel with relays, circuit breakers, busbars, and cable bundles.

... and I have no idea what it does.
