Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Shared foundation slab for two houses? Hopefully, the sound does not transmit too much.

I wouldn’t even have considered separating the foundation slab for soundproofing. There are so many factors to watch out for or consider.
I personally don’t see it as a major issue. All basement rooms are utility spaces, not living areas, and it’s the same for the neighbors.

In our housing development, all terraced houses, etc., are built with individual ground slabs. Approximately 6 cm (2.4 inches) gap.

Whether or not you have a basement is completely irrelevant. If you have a concrete slab, sound is transmitted as structure-borne noise from the walls on one side into the slab and then back into the walls on the other side. To prevent this, you need either a separation or a well-absorbing layer between the concrete slab and the walls resting on it.

One more anecdotal addition:
When we had a small cinema installed as a screening room in the basement of a commercial courtyard in Berlin (the rooms above also belonged to us), they basically built a room within a room with decoupling. The costs were six figures.

So, addressing something like that afterwards can be expensive...

I just can’t understand why there isn’t a standard for this yet... separating semi-detached houses... that would solve the problem... otherwise, you only end up with trouble later on... and the fact that the building savings contract didn’t mention anything about it????
