Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

That’s certainly true. We quickly end up back at the meta-level on which our entire choice of contractor is based. Due to our lack of practical knowledge, we selected the builder almost entirely based on reputation. They aren’t the cheapest, but so far everything has run quite smoothly, and any minor issues have been resolved immediately. I can’t imagine they would choose a subcontractor for the underfloor heating who could damage their reputation, especially given the number of houses they build. They probably always work with the same ones.
According to their quote, the underfloor heating was not installed according to a fixed pattern but based on a personalized heat load calculation. I don’t feel qualified to judge that, as there are countless factors involved, right?
We’ll see. The screed will be poured by the end of the week anyway, so there’s no use speculating now.

I completely understand and am with you.
I simply rely on another principle from our region:
“Et hätt noch imma jooht jejange.”

It can only be done this way, relying on the construction company and the quality of their planning and execution. If you happen to have some knowledge in a particular trade, you can participate in discussions. Building a house should not require the homeowner to become an expert in all trades. As laypeople, the independent construction supervision was very helpful to us. They noticed issues that seemed normal to us but required the construction company to redo their work, even though they had always done it that way.

Update:
We had a major issue with the kitchen supplier... I lost 2 days of vacation because of them, but I fought back (long story)...
Basically, it’s a nice kitchen. The execution was somewhat careless by the manufacturer, the installer, or both. Was there a plan for the veneer? Then the doors could still be adjusted a bit.

- Structurally, I think the kitchen is good; it was slightly modified, but the original design came from a residential architect.
- I also really like the look, although I would have chosen the left veneer to be wood-effect and the far right to be completely dark. But my wife wanted it that way, so I didn’t interfere.

Modern fireplace with black glass front in a white room, wooden floor, glass table in front.

The glass panel has finally arrived.

Very nice, but the sparks flying off to the side won’t stop it. Be careful with that.
