Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Why is this such a massive structure? Because you like it?
It could definitely have been slimmer, right?

Are you referring to the columns? Yes, it could have been much slimmer, but that’s how we wanted it. They’re not finished yet either. An outdoor kitchen will be installed under the roof, and the wall will also be visually altered later. A lounge/dining area will be placed in the corner. Overall, about 4x6 m (13x20 ft) are covered. Next to that is a larger uncovered area. Maybe I’ll post a photo “from the outside” later.

Great, could you share some details about the planned outdoor kitchen? How do you plan to build it?

To be honest, not really... that’s more my husband’s project. He mainly wants to build it using aerated concrete blocks and then plaster it, but I can’t say much more about the construction. As long as it doesn’t get too expensive, I’ll let him handle it. So far, the roof and wall have cost around 3000–3500 euros.

Exactly, above it is Plexiglas, which now can hardly be seen except from above because it is covered from below by the reed mats, and there is a continuous row of bricks that blocks the view of it and the drainage.

I need to correct myself... it is not Plexiglas but polycarbonate sheets.

I’m planning that too – but for my wife, the project is called “space next to the grill” rather than an outdoor kitchen...

I’ve seen some really amazing outdoor kitchens. Absolutely fantastic!
We are actually avid grillers, even in winter. I cooked our last Christmas meal on the grill.
An outdoor kitchen on the terrace has always been our dream.
But just one grill that we have in mind costs nearly 2000€ (about 2150 USD).
So sadly, it will have to wait with the new house as well.
