Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Looks interesting! What exactly are we seeing there, and why is it waterproof?

Well, I assume this is a glass roof with that straw/bamboo/whatever layer underneath.

I like it, but I always wonder with glass roofs if they act like a greenhouse and get terribly hot underneath.
When it comes to shading, you usually make sure it’s on the outside. So I don’t quite understand the purpose of under-roof blinds for glass roofs...

Our patio roof is taking shape (waterproof from above, attractive from below, and provides partial shade)... it’s not completely finished yet.

Be careful with partial shade and the risk of sunburn. The sensation of intense heat on the skin may be missing, but sunburn can still occur.

Why is it actually such a complicated structure? Because you like it?
It surely could have been designed more efficiently, right?

If you have side panels, it definitely gets very warm. If not, or if they are fully open, it’s absolutely not an issue. In my opinion, the difference between internal and external shading is minimal—I have a direct comparison with my neighbor. With our internal shading and no side panels, it’s not any warmer, plus our fabric stays nice and clean...

Exactly, there is plexiglass above, which can hardly be seen anymore except from above because it is covered from below by the reed mats, and there is a row of bricks all around that blocks the view of it and the drainage.
