Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

I find it less than ideal because the glass panel is a trip hazard and collects dirt along the edge. In my opinion, combining tiles with parquet flooring looks awkward and distracts from the fireplace.

I love the house when the sun shines on it. We have now decided on a relatively light-colored joint. In the picture, you can see the joint samples at the bottom left corner next to the window.
Garage door and entrance door are arriving on Monday. (Status as of Friday) We’re curious to see how it will turn out! Joints really make quite a difference.
Best regards!
I actually find the joints quite attractive.
Let’s see how it looks when it’s finished.

@Alessandro

The original idea was to inset a stone slab (made of the same material as the stove) INTO the parquet flooring ON the platform, since we initially planned the fire opening to be flush with the platform floor. Now the opening is higher, so we were allowed to install the parquet right up to the stove, and in winter we will place a metal plate in front of it. A glass plate was discouraged because it would be too heavy to remove quickly.

The advantage, of course, is that you have a black stove.

The idea of using two glass panes, as described by @hausnrplus25, would solve the weight issue—not a bad idea!

Of course, it's possible. But it doesn't look very good, especially considering how much a stove costs. The spark guard really spoils the appearance.
I chose a glass plate that is flush with the parquet flooring. Now I hope the glazier can make a single piece instead of splitting it into two or even three sections. After all, the darn glass plate costs 600 euros.
