Hello,
as we continue planning our house, the question now is which flooring to choose for the entire ground floor (hallway, utility room, kitchen, dining/living room). We have underfloor heating, white interior doors, and a fireplace.
The options are wood-look tiles in sizes 20x80 cm (8x31 inches) or 15x90 cm (6x35 inches), a high-quality laminate flooring designed for commercial use, or engineered hardwood flooring.
What would you recommend based on durability, comfort, and sensitivity?

Hi,
we have planned wood-look tiles (Gant in 80cm x 20cm (31.5 inches x 7.9 inches)) for the hallway, kitchen, pantry, and ground floor bathroom. The rest will be hardwood flooring. Good laminate flooring with an abrasion class of 33 can also quickly cost around 20 euros and cheap laminate doesn’t survive a child’s active phase. We currently have some cheap stuff installed here, and it gets deep scratches very quickly that are impossible to conceal. With (oiled) hardwood flooring, such damage can be repaired to some extent. However, you should expect costs of about 40 to 50 euros for that.
Hardwood flooring can be installed as a floating floor and can also be done quite well as a DIY project, which might even make it cheaper than tiles that need professional installation.
Best regards,
Andreas

In a private home, I would personally always prefer hardwood flooring over laminate. I’m also not a fan of wood-look tiles.
When it comes to durability and comfort, solid wood flooring is clearly my top choice. Vinyl flooring could be considered if sensitivity is an issue.
As for manufacturers, Parador is my favorite. I’m simply impressed by their click system, even for laminate.
