Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Since stair treads are usually installed lengthwise, regardless of the parquet flooring direction, and bookstar is among those who do not accept any deviations from the correct procedure. We have always done it this way, and that’s the only right way! Period!

I have noticed that too, but I think it looks really stylish! It appears very harmonious and is quite an eye-catcher. I’m really looking forward to the photos of the finished house for this project! Please share more!!!

Is there a technical reason for this?

No, the appearance is not the issue. It's the tripping hazard. I don’t understand why something like this is still done today. In times of robot vacuums and barrier-free living, it is just an obstacle.

Visually, I really like it, but I would have skipped the steps myself.

We hadn’t considered the robot vacuum.

@Bookstar You’re right, we also spent a lot of time thinking about accessibility during the planning phase. Since the living floor is in the attic, we even planned an opening for a retrofit residential elevator. However, we ultimately concluded that if scenario X occurs, we would have to reconsider the entire house and the plot of land (16m (52 feet) elevation difference). That would no longer be manageable, and we would have to look for a different solution. Right now, I’m kicking myself for not also including steps toward the kitchen, as it would have provided a subtle way to zone the areas.

Yes, that works—everyone has their own needs and preferences. At least it’s not all cookie-cutter. Otherwise, your house looks really nice and even appeals to me, an old grump.
