Hi,

there are significant price differences between buying tiles from a specialized tile supplier or from a hardware store.

We would tend to go with the hardware store since the construction specification lists 20€/m2 (20 €/sq ft).

What are the differences between them?

Best regards & thanks

I looked at tiles at OBI, I think 15 x 60cm (6 x 24 inches), the price was just under 20€, they had a nice appearance and also matching "grain / texture" to the look, which was a very positive surprise for me.

Oh guys, you’re just reducing tiles to wood look. If I wanted wood look, I would have chosen parquet.

Parquet has and always will have the disadvantage of being delicate, which basically rules it out as a material for me. Otherwise, I would have chosen it too – so in the end, it just became wood-look tiles.

Have you ever used hardwood flooring? I always smile when people talk about how delicate it supposedly is. That’s why there are houses from the early twentieth century that still have their original floorboards.

Here is a tile that is not from a hardware store, but is still within the average price range for wood-look tiles:

Hmm, our €30 per square meter (about $32 per square yard) tile looks similar in texture and structure, but the size is only 20x80cm (8x31.5 inches). The €80 tiles are, of course, larger and a bit nicer, but for around 100 square meters (1,076 square feet), the additional cost per square meter and the extra installation fee (20x80cm was included in our case) were simply at a scale that we didn’t find worth paying.

No. We are simply talking about wood-look tiles. If you want to discuss other types of tiles, feel free to do so.

Yep, we have hardwood flooring in our current rental apartment.
And the area around the dining table has become an absolute disaster by now, it’s so scratched up.
Friends of ours installed hardwood flooring in their new build – their dog caused the same damage there as our chairs have here.
Because of these experiences, hardwood flooring is off the table for us.
