Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

I thought I had captured our Eddy well...
You captured him very well indeed, and it’s definitely good for your Eddy that he isn’t too chubby, but he could afford to eat a few more Christmas cookies this year. ;-)

Eddy is 12 years old and, for a hunting dog-hunting dog-hunting dog mix with a sighthound running style, he is in good condition; for a Labrador, that would be a problem. :p He used to pull cyclists while wearing a harness at over 50 km/h (31 mph) on the bike speedometer. Nowadays, he prefers to take it easier.

I'm simply not a fan of these electrical devices. Looking back, I'm not so sure how good the decision was. We tried them at friends’ houses, and to me, they seemed a bit too slow. Also, they were too expensive for us.

For us, having an electric roller shutter control was important, and we have no regrets, even though several thousand euros changed hands for a total of 25 (!) windows and doors. The living/dining area has quite a few window and door elements, and in summer it’s very convenient to be able to shade the rooms automatically. In the evenings and mornings, everything goes up or down automatically. You can get used to it 🙂. So we have a "smart home light" setup. In the future, we plan to expand it further in terms of lighting control...

A full control system using KNX and all the associated components quickly reaches the lower five-digit range in costs for a typical single-family house.

In our guest bathroom, there are two power outlets. They have saved us more than once.

Our facade is finished, beige textured plaster with glitter... Hopefully the scaffolding will be taken down tomorrow

This color was already available in the former East Germany and was often used for the EW65B house type (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing...) 🙂

In the former GDR, were there standard designations for houses? Is this a type of roughcast plaster (very coarse-grained)? I have seen this on two houses here as well.

I'm not familiar with that one (especially the "B" suffix).

At least for garden sheds as kits, but calling the EW65 a "house" isn’t quite accurate. It would be more fitting to call it a "building plan kit" since you had to organize the materials and helpers yourself. However, there were also complete prefabricated houses (from Neckermann, if I recall correctly, meaning the manufacturer was probably Streif Haus), available for Western currency, from the Genex catalog.
