Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Thank you!

Hello, it’s about the overhang here:

Half-wall with wooden handrail next to stair landing and wooden balustrade, window in the background.

In the drawing we received from the staircase builder, the beam was shown flush with the parapet, not offset by 1cm (0.4 inches) to the side.
I’m not sure if this is worth complaining about or if it’s just nitpicking.
They also delivered the wrong post caps; they were supposed to be rounded, not so angular.

@kati1337 I thought the forum and you had agreed that you’re both quite nerdy. So I’m surprised you’ll operate the roller shutters manually instead of using a smart solution?

I’m just not a fan of these electric devices. In hindsight, I’m not so sure the decision was the best. We tried them at friends’ houses and found them kind of slow. Also, they were too expensive for us. At the time of the selection process, we didn’t yet know for sure if our planned extra costs for the foundation would be enough or if we might have to do pile foundations and then be short 10,000 euros somewhere else. For priority reasons, electric window openers were therefore out for us.

Edit: I see now you probably meant a fully smart home setup controlled by an app or so. Actually, nerds or not, we barely implemented anything smart in the house. We just distributed network cabling throughout the house, and that’s it. For me, smart home is an all-or-nothing thing. And for ‘all’, we definitely didn’t have the money or the expertise. Neither of us has any real passion for it, so we’re not well informed about all the cool things you can do. And since I’m no longer in my early 30s, we structured our mortgage so we can still pay it off during our working years, which means there was simply no money left for such extras that aren’t very important to us.

I completely agree, a smart home really requires a full package if anything, and that will cost you over 30,000 (about 30k) extra. Otherwise, a simple network connection is more than sufficient.

It's about the parapet with the heating circuit distributor. The stair post is attached to it—but it's not aligned. It would probably bother me too, but my wife would probably remind me that over 6 years ago I promised to install the baseboards in the kitchen of our rental apartment and apparently haven’t had a problem with that ever since....
By the way, I sent a message to the head carpenter. At that time, I hadn’t yet noticed the misaligned post, but I did see that they hadn’t finished the post tops as ordered. The reply we received is very helpful, see for yourself:

I’m not sure either, I think he’s a bit confused.
I’ve added it to the preliminary acceptance report, and while I was at it, also noted that the post is sticking out and one of them was dirty with some kind of adhesive.
We are paying a significant extra charge for this staircase, and I don’t really want to accept it half-finished. There was already some frustration because earlier in an email I was told certain components were "included in the price," but in the end, they weren’t. Of all things, that was the part we had chosen and then had to redesign. The whole staircase situation has been a bit unfortunate. Nevertheless, it is a very nice staircase.

Regarding smart home systems, I also thought about it for a long time and came to the conclusion that they do not offer me any added value at all. And I work in the building automation industry.
