Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Looks great. Where do you buy your trees, and which ones did you plant? How much does something like that cost? 🙂

The trees come from a local nursery. There are two London plane trees around the terrace.
They cost 500-600 euros each at this size (about 5m (16 feet) tall).

You buy the expensive stuff from Kann and others, and then you’re afraid to just quickly clean it with a pressure washer?

I also buy an expensive car but don’t wash it in a standard self-service car wash...
Using a high-pressure cleaner removes the surface coating of the stones. This causes the stone to absorb dirt, green algae, and so on, which you will never be able to remove again.
The same applies to tiles and grout. If you clean them with harsh chemical cleaners like Bref or Cillit Bang, the surface coating is removed, making it easier for mold, discoloration from shower gel, shampoo, and similar products to develop.

Looks great! What type of patio slabs are shown in the first picture? We’re planning to have our terrace done next spring and are still looking. Our current favorite is the Arctia Betonplus from KANN, which we really like and should be very durable. But yours also look very nice.
I think that’s our stone. We chose the slabs, not the paving stones. The paving stones break easily. Some broke during installation and also on the terrace. I noticed that just yesterday.
The paving stones are thicker, so it’s better to use those rather than the thin slabs.
Otherwise, the slabs get very dirty easily. But they feel great underfoot.
