Beautiful and ugly ... how many different opinions there are
One reason for the boring houses, in my view, is that the judgments can be so harsh.
You dare to do something different ... and get criticized or ridiculed.
Although I don’t like many of the examples, I think it’s great that they exist!
I prefer “unconventional creativity” to fearfulness. Often, it’s practical constraints that produce “boring” houses. As an avid hobby photographer with a passion for architecture, I had a clear idea of how the house could look in the end. I envy everyone who was able to realize that—we couldn’t.
Regulations in the zoning plan or building permit / planning permission, budget limits, time pressure. Limited footprint on the plot. No basement possible, yet space requirements that had to be addressed somehow. Design restrictions set by the construction company. And in the end, many end up with a house that won’t make it into Architectural Digest.
Sometimes I’m saddened by this, especially considering the costs involved. Wasn’t it possible to have the desired look of the house for that money? But ultimately, these are luxury problems. The interior seems very successful, even though we haven’t moved in yet. It’s a privilege to live with plenty of space in a beautiful location, we are all healthy ... all is well.
@Pinkiponk: I thought you wanted to project nicer neighboring houses onto the green screen. Is that a sound barrier forest along a country road in the background?
@Tarnari: What is that strange change in format on some walls at about 70cm (28 inches) height?

There is an access road, but no country road.As we get closer to selling our current house, I will also share the full development plan etc. in my original thread. I just don’t want to take up your energy and time this early on—only when things become more concrete.
Hmm, if I share everything, you’ll all know exactly where I live, won’t you? Not that I mind.

Or you could black out all location-related information.

Or you could black out all location-specific information.I’ll just say this in advance: anyone who does that can no longer count on my advice. Location-specific information is the most important factor when evaluating a plot of land. And a quick P.S. on the topic of green screens and similar techniques: keyword “Friesenhaus decision” – surrounding houses may be shown in photos, as long as no technical aids are used (for example, the photographer climbs a ladder or similar); only people should be anonymized. But cropping out the skyline from property photos until you’re left with basically just the curb and grass is as unnecessary as it is unhelpful.

@11ant I assume you are referring to the two pictures of the garage. The situation is that there is a fence right on the property line, actually about 3cm (1 inch) on our side, which belongs to the neighboring property, a kindergarten.
Long story short: we couldn’t position the garage exactly on the boundary as originally planned because the kindergarten would only allow a temporary removal of the fence at our expense. Since the fence’s foundations naturally take up additional space, the garage’s footprint had to be altered compared to the original plan, and this is the result.
I can’t recall all the exact details offhand. Our architect explained it to us, but I didn’t memorize everything in detail.
