Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

At first glance, I also thought it might be a sauna! Have you considered creating accents with large plexiglass panels and lighting them from behind? Maybe even in black.

How about staining different parts of the sauna separately? This way, the wood tones won’t all look the same. I think that’s what creates the sauna feeling. @Climbee

We will take care of the guest room once we are living in the house. It might be partly whitewashed – we’re not sure yet.

Furniture is also available in plain white or aluminum colors, but definitely nothing that looks like wood. For now, during the move, it will serve as temporary storage until we’ve had time to arrange everything where it ultimately belongs. Then we’ll have a clearer idea. I’m thinking more along the lines of very minimal, cool furniture in chrome, aluminum, white, black, and glass. We’ll see. It definitely won’t be designer furniture – after all, it’s a guest room, second office, and maybe a fitness room.

Yesterday at the construction site, the sign said "No entry!" because the floors were being oiled. We could only peek inside through the window:

Interior with a white staircase with open risers, wooden floor, and construction tools.

It was already looking good!

This morning we were allowed back in to admire the floor in all its glory:

Bright living room with wooden floor, large glass front, and wooden roof structure, sunny.

Empty room with wooden floor, glass sliding doors, sunlight, and visible outdoor area.

Bright, empty interior with wooden floor and glass sliding doors; sunlight shining in.

Open wooden construction site: stairs, railing, and wooden floor; cables lying on the floor.

It still smells quite strongly of the oil (from the scent it seems that linseed oil is included), but it looks really great! And walking on it barefoot is still a pleasure.

I can still imagine an iron bed. But what would a wardrobe be made of then?

A metal locker? Totally retro industrial style.

Not my personal taste at all. For a holiday home in the Alps, maybe.
But I think it’s great if someone likes it and follows through consistently!! #thumbsup

Slowly but steadily, progress is being made.

So, we are in the final stages. Many of the new furniture pieces are already assembled. Nevertheless, there is still a lot to do.
Hanging lamps (inside and outside)
Programming the KNX system
Silicone sealing
Window sills
Small tasks in the bathroom like towel holders, toilet brush, etc.
...
We made a list with nearly 100 items.
After that, we will move in. Hopefully the weekend after next.

Modern house with paved driveway, two cars parked (blurred) and stairs on the right.

Modern house front with large windows and roller shutters, grill and garden furniture in sunny courtyard.

Roof terrace with black hanging chair, wooden table, view of suburban houses and hills.

Modern white facade with black roller shutters; a hanging chair stands on the roof terrace.
