Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Yes, we could have added an extra room for the main heating system... But it’s great in winter.

A single-family house (new build) is pure luxury.

Visually, the fireplace turned out very well, and the color choice worked nicely too. If it gets too warm: just open a window and the house is no longer "airtight."
@bortel: To each their own. If the fireplace fits within the budget and brings a lot of joy, it’s a good investment.

Oh, what a nice thing you could have done with the money for that stove^^
I’m always glad that we removed something like that from our wishlist right from the start

I can’t think of anything I could have done with the extra money except maybe a few more square meters, but not necessarily, because 1. 140sqm (1507 sq ft) plus basement is enough for us, and 2. we didn’t have to compromise on any of our features—in fact, quite the opposite, we kept upgrading because we still had money left over.

The reason for the fireplace is as simple as it might be unnecessary: if the outdoor unit of the air-to-water heat pump breaks down in winter, I still have warmth in the house while waiting up to 10 days for the service technician.

We’ll just wait and see about the overheating issue. Whether it becomes a problem will be decided in winter. We have so much thermal mass without external wall insulation, drywall, or extra insulation—basically all concrete and brick—with so much open space that I’m quite relaxed about it.

Slowly but surely, progress is being made.

The footprint in the photos looks really impressive!
