Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

It depends on the neighbors. Here, there’s also someone who scrutinizes every new build or extension. During a renovation two years ago, everything was measured very precisely because apparently there was an issue with the roof overhangs. That had to be adjusted.

I’m just laughing out loud right now ..........

It then also had to be changed.

And what if something can no longer be changed? Then a fine? How much does an excessively high knee wall cost?

It is possible to modify a knee wall that is too high! Raise the roof, remove the masonry, then place the roof back on. Of course, this involves costs, but it can be reasonably justified since setback distances serve to protect neighboring properties.

There’s nothing that doesn’t exist. I’ve always been pretty relaxed about this (and still am, actually), but when the neighbor measured the distance from the excavation for the floor slabs to the street with a tape measure in a midnight operation (she is about 70 years old) and then filed a complaint with the town hall over exactly 3.5cm (1.4 inches), I knew my first statement was true...

From the construction department, I have heard since my apprenticeship that the neighbor is the best building inspector. *g*

My architect recently said that when he is on a site and wants to check something, it’s often not the building authority doing the inspection, but the neighbor.
