Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

I can only agree.

Great thread. Thanks for that. I would also find some key details about the houses interesting (e.g., exterior dimensions, living area, construction type, with or without basement, total costs so far if anyone wants to share).

I find it interesting as well. I wrote more information in a separate thread some time ago.

Yes, but here it would be centralized, so you wouldn’t have to look up the information separately for each house.

As mentioned: Just consider this as a suggestion. Of course, everyone can handle it however they prefer.

@T21150: My grandmother always used to say: Rome is in the smallest hut.
Right now, we need the space of a larger house, but our dream is to spend our retirement in a small cottage by the coast.

My childhood home "Aufheim-I" was smaller. The three of us lived comfortably there, and back then, it felt like a luxury.

My wife: Would love to live by the coast.
Me (a Bavarian): Naturally at the exact opposite end (not very popular)
I already know the compromise for retirement...: Norddeich… or Fuerteventura (also not very popular, even though my planned holiday apartment there has been invested in the house…)

Masipulani:
9.96 m (33 feet) * 8.16 m (27 feet)
110 m² (1,184 ft²) living space
135 m² (1,452 ft²) net floor area + attic
Timber frame / wood panel construction
No basement
With land (approx. 120,000) included, and all incidental building costs but without landscaping, about 370,000

Best regards, Thorsten

A small suggestion from my side. If you want, I could add the data later to the individual pictures.
If anyone is interested, just send me a private message with the details.

Saruss great! But I do love the North and clinker bricks and all... I just think the garage would bother me as a neighbor, it looks very close to the neighbor’s property and he doesn’t seem to have much garden space either?

@nordanney: I like the pavilion. Is it a fixed structure?

Just google Palram pavilion. There are several versions available – they are fixed pavilions made of aluminum with double-wall polycarbonate roofing (the company otherwise manufactures greenhouses and polycarbonate panels – real global experts in this field).
We chose the 3.6 x 3.6 m (12 x 12 ft) version. We screwed it down to our wooden deck, and the storm raging right now doesn’t cause any issues. We also ran a power cable invisibly through one of the supports into the roof, so we will have lighting next spring.

Unfortunately, it’s not exactly cheap...
