Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

I’m always surprised at how large a house can appear in a photo.

Me too. The photo is original, not edited, and the neighbor’s house couldn’t be photographed from any more “optimal” angle anymore, the day before yesterday.

But as I wrote in another thread: It’s a house for 2 adults. Intentionally. It could also work for a couple with a child. Anything beyond that would be pointless in terms of usefulness.

What surprises me personally:
a) The space is more than enough for us.
The detached condominium replacement works exactly as it should.
The subjective feeling, even after more than a year: No more, for the two of us. It’s already enough work and effort to keep it perfectly clean (unfortunately, I’m very meticulous about cleaning… even though I’m a man… cleanliness is important to me).
b) Neighbors/friends with larger houses (we definitely have the smallest one here) come in and wonder where the (actually nonexistent) extra space comes from. Well: A few small changes, lighting in the right places and things like that make the interior feel larger as well. My planning, which the architect only slightly modified, worked. At least: It does for others. I objectively find the house small... but do you need more than what you actually need? My opinion: No.

I’m being completely open in the “regulars’ table thread” here.
That way other building families can get an idea: What costs what. What’s available. What to expect?

Regards
Thorsten

I am joining the ranks of timber house builders. Our modest home is currently being assembled. Here is the south side facing the garden. KfW55, 172 sqm (1,849 sq ft) of living space for 5 people, without a basement.
