Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Controlled residential ventilation ducts embedded in concrete?

@gmt hopefully that huge part is meant to be screwed in, but why no concrete slab?

Mechanical ventilation ducts in concrete?

@gmt, hopefully that huge piece is meant for screws but why without a slab?

I’m surprised you’re asking! There are exactly two options: on-floor and in-floor. In-floor means embedded in concrete.

So, two cars will fit in the large section, and in the smaller one I want to set up a workshop for my motorcycles.

It’s not that big, with external dimensions of 10.5 by 7 meters (34.4 by 23 feet). And when I imagine arranging it in my mind, it already seems too small again.

We deliberately chose not to have a slab because we plan to pave the interior. That way, water from vehicles can drain much better during rain or snow.

In the end, it’s probably a matter of personal preference.

We also paved the garage – but if I had a kind of workshop included, for tinkering and oil changes, etc., well, I hope you have at least planned a drip tray to prevent any oil from seeping into the ground.

Paving is a good choice if you only park cars. However, with a workshop and similar uses, it’s not a good decision. In that case, I would prefer an industrial floor coating or polished concrete.

Well, I still plan to lay PVC industrial tiles over the paving in the workshop area.

The oil change for the car is done at a professional garage. For the motorcycle, I have a large drip pan that I have never managed to let anything spill past.
