Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

is this good now??...you can discuss via private message...

I understand the purpose of an image thread to be a collection of pictures. However, not in the sense of just posting an image and staying silent, but allowing discussion about what is shown. Essentially, the focus should be on houses or construction sites, rather than floor plans or cost calculations. If I only want to like pictures, I can do that on Facebook or other platforms.

Are you a structural engineer again? Are you that sure?

Even though I wasn’t addressed directly: you don’t necessarily have to be a structural engineer for that (by the way, structural analysis is included in many engineering degree programs as part of technical mechanics, including the calculation of such load-bearing structures). If reinforced concrete columns are sufficient for huge load-bearing demands in high-rise buildings, industrial facilities, etc., then they will probably support the few tons of an intermediate floor. After all, the upper floor exterior walls, roof structure, and so on rest on the ground floor exterior walls.

The problem here is not the column itself, but the bearing surface for the beams that the floor then rests on. As far as I can see, beams are being cast here? There is a risk of shear at the column if the bearing surface is too small.

One possible solution might have been a vertically standing steel beam embedded at the bottom as an I-beam (acting as a column), with a steel I-beam placed on top as a beam. The floor slab could be laid flush on both sides into the I-beam, making the beam practically invisible. However, steel construction is not common in typical single-family house construction and, as you can see, can also be avoided and made more cost-effective.

Harvest worker.

But someone with expertise would probably have no problem verifying even a 30x30 cm (12x12 inches) column and designing the beams as a continuous two-span beam, I suppose.

and run the beams continuously as a two-span beam,

Structural engineers do like two-span beams

What does a seasonal farm worker do professionally after the harvest festival? – do they live on bad weather allowance then?

I completely agree. A forum thrives on such discussions.

However, some people need to be careful not to misuse the anonymity of the internet.

Criticism is good and welcome, and fortunately it is usually very constructive here. On the other hand, you have to be mindful not to get too close to the builder personally. For many, this is one of the most important projects in their lives, so harsh criticism can sometimes be painful.

In the end, everyone who shares something and/or expects feedback has to learn to deal with this.

Better that the criticism in the forum hurts than my head (because I put the shower under the stairs or something). For many, it is primarily a project for which they have not yet had a rehearsal – most homeowners-to-be do not already know the single-family home living arrangement as tenants or from previous building experience, and their parents’ homes were built a generation earlier. After all, we are talking about an investment on the scale of ten years’ worth of salary. There are fawners who, with flattering words, let you sink the money with eyes wide open, and friends who bring little joy.
