Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Yes, the weeds! If you seed a lawn during dandelion flowering time, you will have those pests in the soil forever. Turf, on the other hand, offers less opportunity for them. Whether the price is justified… that’s up to each person to decide.

In my opinion, rolled sod offers clear advantages compared to seeded lawn... especially the density that rolled sod has is phenomenal. My lawn has been in place for 3 years and there isn’t a trace of weeds.

I meant the example more symbolically.

Here in our area, many new housing developments have everything completed around the construction site right away. They pave all the walkways and driveways, plant mature trees and hedges, and finally cover the remaining ground with rolled turf. The plots look like they came straight from the builder’s catalog after just a few weeks.

This certainly has many advantages, but in my view, many people are simply taking the easy route. It’s fine if you can afford and want that, but for many, the financing amount is simply pushed so high that there’s nothing left to do except pay the installments to the bank.

Why not, if you can afford it?

It’s definitely nicer than having mud and dirt in front of your door for months or even years.

I still remember when my parents finished building our house and we moved in. There was more unfinished than just the garden, and money was tight. Landscaping was certainly not a top priority back then. But my mother was so happy when the area around the house was finally paved, and we kids didn’t have to track dirt inside all the time (and neither did my father).
If you can have it done right away, why not?

This is absolutely no envy, just not my idea for our long-term project.

There may be people who have no time or no interest in doing anything outside, or others who physically can’t do anything themselves. For them, it is certainly great when others take over the work and in the end, everything is as desired.

We look forward to watching the garden and everything around it grow over the coming years and can also accept that in the meantime, it doesn’t always look exactly as we would like.
