Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Good explanation of envy and resentment. It also better captures what I meant. Thanks for that.

I find this quite common interpretation of envy somewhat misleading. There is, above all, a much better word for it: resentment.

When I read that, I thought of the saying: Envy is the highest form of admiration.

Additional remark: The house is really amazing. I was a bit sad that we couldn’t realize something like that. But there is at least one price range in between.

A beautiful house. Exactly my taste—especially the interior. You can see many custom solutions that emphasize its exclusivity.

Two details I’m curious about:
- Do you have sun protection on the floor-to-ceiling windows? In the photos, there are no visible external roller shutter boxes and no lintel where the boxes could be hidden. Is there a flush ceiling lintel?
- In one photo, the sliding door to the terrace is visible. Does it have a high threshold or step?

Hello,

we do not have external venetian blinds on the windows leading to the roof terrace. The reason is the complex structural requirements at this location. To accommodate them, the terrace roof would have needed to be thicker, which would have completely changed the character of the house and was therefore not an option. There is not even enough space in the ceiling at this area for recessed curtain tracks…

The cantilever is sized according to the angle of the sun. So far, it is working very well. If it ever becomes a problem, we plan to install an interior curtain track in front of the window frame – a calculated risk…

We also have a step due to the roof insulation on the ground floor. A level exit could have been achieved by offsetting the ceiling, but it was not important enough to justify the additional effort. The house is not barrier-free anyway.

Best regards

Great house! I would love to see more – both the exterior and the interior look very harmonious!
@derdietmar Does that mean the cantilever on the first floor at the terrace is constructed as a solid structure with thermal break elements?

Thank you for your reply. That was also my assumption.
We really wanted floor-to-ceiling windows (and doors). However, since we have a pitched roof with a parapet (without an eave), sun protection was an important issue. One option for the floor-to-ceiling windows would have been surface-mounted blind boxes installed in the lintel area. But that would have greatly affected the clean-lined design of the house. Our solution: reduce the height of the windows and doors from 270cm (106 inches) to 240cm (94 inches). It doesn’t look nearly as elegant as yours – unfortunately, compromises have to be made...
