Hello everyone,

Our house is already fully planned, and we have an open living-dining area.
Now we’re considering that it might look nice to slightly separate the living room from the rest of the space with a step running along the entire room length.
Do any of you have experience with this? Is the slab simply poured deeper for this, or how is something like this usually done?

That can be done over two foundation slabs.
However, I would reconsider if you intend to create a tripping hazard inside the house.
Accessible design looks different.

Yes, exactly—that is the next consideration: whether something like this seems great in theory but becomes annoying later on.

Why not use a partition wall? Maximum 1.30–1.40 m (4.3–4.6 ft) high, depending on the room height.

In my opinion, this should only be done if there is a good reason. For example, if the plot of land is sloped and you want to avoid compensating entirely with the terrace exit.

The plot is level, so the terrace would also need a step.
