Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

I wanted to lay flooring from Children's Room 1 to Children's Room 2 through the small hallway – the longest planks are about 6 meters (20 feet)

6 meters (20 feet) should not be a problem, especially with laminate. Hardwood flooring can be more critical; it can warp and start to creak. Temperature differences between rooms are usually not the main issue, but rather the varying humidity levels between summer and winter. That can be around 60% compared to 40%. And if each plank expands or contracts by just 0.1 millimeters (0.004 inches), you can quickly get issues with hardwood flooring.

Laminate is less sensitive in this regard.

Best regards,
Andreas

I’ve now gone all in and completed the project... I’ll report back if it turns out to be a mistake – for now, it looks fantastic, and since today our living/dining room is basically a small dance floor.

I’m already looking forward to “recovering from vacation” at work on Monday...

It should be noted that doing the painting and flooring myself was not as easy as I expected.

Without occasional help from friends and a great deal of support from my dad/father-in-law, this wouldn’t have been finished in two weeks. I roughly estimated about 250 working hours, and compared to a general contractor, we saved nearly €7000 through self-performance.

Renovated interior with wood floor, partition wall, and scattered construction tools.

New wood floor being laid in an empty room; tools on the floor, man at the edge.

Bright, empty room with wood floor; renovation supplies (buckets, rollers) on the left; person in the back left.

On the left side of the picture, is that a ledge for the tiles?

Yeah, it’s easy to underestimate. We laid about 230 sq meters (2,474 sq ft) of flooring and installed 16 doors in 9 days back then. I had muscle soreness for a whole week afterward...

Optical illusion... it's roughly level height-wise – just missing a trim strip.

Would a small paragraph be such a problem?
