saschneider-111 Oct 2012 22:26Dear Homeowners,
I am currently purchasing a condominium and can choose the flooring freely. Even after careful consideration, I am still undecided between carpet, laminate, or hardwood flooring. Cost is not a factor in this decision.
What does the community think? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Thank you very much for your responses.

MODERATOR17 Oct 2012 19:32Hello saschneider, if money is not an issue for this question, I recommend hardwood flooring. Good quality carpets are also nice; there are truly durable products with great designs and colors. Carpets provide warmth underfoot and feel very comfortable to the touch. However, hardwood is more durable and can be fairly easily restored by sanding and resealing or waxing the surface. The natural look that a hardwood floor gives to a home feels both high-end and grounded at the same time. Technically speaking, hardwood is easier to maintain, stains can be removed relatively easily (provided the finish even allows staining), and the ability to sand the floor to renew it is the biggest advantage.
I will leave laminate out of this discussion; wood-look laminates are, well, just imitations. Despite all the technically proven abrasion resistance, their surface is still sensitive and can only be replaced, not refreshed.

Dentist-122 Oct 2012 01:22Years ago, I chose hardwood flooring, but I wouldn’t do it again, at least not with children in the house. Small stones tracked inside cause scratches very quickly. Sanding is, of course, an option to refresh the floor, but you don’t want to have to do that every 2-3 years. At least for families with children, I would recommend carpet.

Kurt1985-123 Apr 2014 09:04Parquet flooring is the best option available. Since the budget allows, only parquet will be considered. Laminate could also work, but the difference is clearly noticeable.
The question is always whether there are young children in the household or not. In such cases, hardwood flooring is the preferred choice, as it is quite durable. I would not recommend a carpet, as it tends to get dirty relatively quickly. Laminate flooring could also work, but it is not the same as hardwood.
