Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

And did you celebrate it so enthusiastically that now you’re quite unsteady on your feet?

The glass panel has finally arrived.
Looks great! Is it recessed or surface-mounted?

I absolutely wouldn’t be able to sleep then. But surely a fire insurance won’t cover that anymore, right?
Of course we have fire insurance. A flying spark won’t cause more than a brown spot on the parquet floor. And when I go to bed, I don’t leave the glass door open! I actually think the glass frame is unnecessary. If a spark does fly out, do you really think it would only travel 30 cm (12 inches) sideways? Besides: you should let the wood burn down before adding more (open the fireplace), only when there are just embers left. It takes a few seconds for the logs to catch fire again. By then, my glass door is already closed again.

Very cool. What should I consider if I want to install a glass panel flush with the fireplace? I’ve read about this several times and would like to do it the same way.

In principle, you only need to remove the screed by the thickness of the glass plate around the fireplace.

Foundation pit with blue cover, sand mound and wooden posts in front; construction site outdoors.

The concrete slab has been poured. For the first two days, we had to water it thoroughly at 30°C (86°F) to prevent cracking. For the past two days, it has been raining continuously, which has saved us from that. The aerated concrete blocks will be delivered soon. I just need to decide whether to order the density 1.4 or 1.8. Do you think this will have a significant impact on the material's resistance to impacts, for example, from something like a wheelbarrow?
