Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

We never wear outdoor shoes inside the house; even when carrying in furniture, we always take them off—that’s just how we’ve always done it. We are absolutely sure we have never worn outdoor shoes upstairs either, as we always go up in socks. There’s no need to create unnecessary cleaning work; it doesn’t hurt to take your shoes off before entering the house.

Best regards,

Usually, we take off our shoes right inside the front door. Sometimes there are exceptions for guests—if we’re going to mop the floor afterwards anyway. Or during summer garden parties, not everyone who just needs to use the bathroom has to remove their shoes. But upstairs, always. The window cleaners use shoe covers, and the chimney sweep also takes off their shoes... I think this is quite common nowadays, unlike in the past. In my parents’ generation, that was unthinkable—we naturally bring slippers when visiting others.

So, to stay on topic... I found a photo

Buy rectified/calibrated tiles

Here’s what I found online about it:
Advantages of rectified tiles
Rectified tiles are popular today: due to the edge finishing, it is possible to achieve very narrow grout joints. At least 2mm (0.08 inches) should be planned to allow for the natural expansion of the tiles. Rectified tiles create a very modern, seamless floor appearance.

That fits just fine.
Take a look at floors in Italy. Grinding the tiles tight is considered taboo only here...

Only here is teeth grinding frowned upon...

That term already sounds quite uninviting.
