Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

You use the brick that was factored into the structural calculations.

There is no structural engineering report because this is all exempt from permits. The builder only told me which type of brick to use. I’m just wondering if a higher raw density level would make a noticeable difference. I don’t want the brick to chip easily if it gets hit by a bicycle, wheelbarrow, or similar. That’s also why I’m not considering aerated concrete, as originally suggested by the builder (although, of course, there are different raw density levels for aerated concrete as well).

The density of the bricks has no impact on the holes you make with the wheelbarrow in the plaster of your finished house. However, it does affect sound insulation, thermal insulation, and load-bearing capacity, so I would base my decision on those factors once both meet the structural requirements.

Oops, I mixed up the compressive strength.

A house without structural engineering? I've never heard something so unusual. Do they just guess or take a wild guess?

Are there any single-family houses where just a structural safety certificate or something similar is sufficient? In that case, a structural engineer would not need to be involved. It’s possible that I’m mistaken!
