Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

I also think it’s very nice. When we were building, our tiler said, "Actually, you should tile the stairwell wall as well." At the time, I thought it was a joke and pictured the small wall tiles in our bathrooms. Every time I paint the stairwell, I’m reminded that it would have been a good idea – but with tiles as beautiful as yours.

Done!
Unfortunately, my camera is not good enough to capture all the accents in the tile clearly...

Looks good. Could you please share the name and price as well?

How did you end up choosing tiles? Usually, when thinking about a wall, people first consider wallpaper or paint if they want to make changes, not tiles right away.

I also have to say, it looks better than expected. In your first photo, the tiles appeared much darker and grayer.

Thanks!
I travel quite a lot for work, so I often stay in stylish design hotels. Just before the construction phase, I deliberately booked into places like that (the van der Valk hotel chain in the Netherlands is always a design highlight!).
You learn a lot about circulation paths, color combinations, lighting design, and materials. For example, you can clearly see which materials are easy to maintain, scratch-resistant, etc., after constant and rather rough use by hotel guests (carpet flooring, fixtures, tiles, wooden furniture, and so on).

When I liked something, I took photos of it. Here are a few examples just from the van der Valk hotels:

Fireplace with leather covering!

Modern hotel lounge with round fireplace window, visible flames, dark wall, tables and decorations.

Fireplace with slate cladding

Modern living area with long fireplace, flames, stacked firewood on the left, and dark wall.

Illuminated corridor wall

Hotel corridor with door 028 on the left, modern walls and patterned carpet flooring.

I always wanted to highlight the stairway. First with moss, then with leather (but it was too dark), and finally with tiles — easy to maintain, no fingerprints from the kids, and more elegant than decorative plaster, wallpaper, or paint.

You just have to be careful and explain exactly what you want, because some tilers might be thinking of a slaughterhouse look, so the wall can be steam-cleaned easily. Several visits to craftsmen or other advisors in their homes quickly made me realize we were talking about very different things.

Regarding any change in acoustics, I haven't noticed anything yet, but I have to admit that I wasn't home long yesterday and the wall is still so new that I need to gain everyday experience first.
I wouldn't worry about it; worst case scenario, you get called for dinner with an echo—that has its charm... I like bold decisions!

The tile is called "Flaviker Rebel Emerald." Costs about 50€/m² (approx. $50/sq ft).
I could also imagine using it to cover the fireplace.
