Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Seems like this is for North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW)
State Building Code for Northern German Terraced Houses in Westphalia (Building Code NRW)
§ 36 Stairs
(6) Stairs must have at least one fixed and securely grippable handrail. If the usable width of the stairs is large, handrails on both sides and intermediate handrails may be required.

However

(8) Handrails and guardrails can be omitted, especially for stairs with up to five steps, if there are no safety concerns regarding public safety, taking into account the needs of disabled or elderly people.

Fortunately, I don’t find a handrail necessary.
I like it, it looks neat.

I’m happy to share an update on our current construction progress... what you see is the fine plaster. It will still be painted in the final color... unfortunately, we don’t know which tone it will be yet, as we are still deciding. I also want to praise our craftsmen again... they are really doing a great job and put a lot of effort into their work. We’re excited about the new progress every time. Best regards, Steffi.

Is a staircase allowed without a railing like this?

Here in North Rhine-Westphalia, the rule is apparently that in a multi-family building, a railing is required starting from 3 steps. Although for a resident with a severe disability, even 2 steps without a handrail can pose an obstacle.

This is a single-family house

Ah, so people with disabilities are excluded then?

The phrase "the cup goes to the well until it breaks" applies here. Then everyone complains. My parents used to have non-slip mats on the steps during winter. One time, when my father carelessly went to the mailbox, he fell. Luckily, he didn’t break anything, but his butt was bruised. In the spring, a handrail was installed.
