Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

You don’t want the mail carrier to be coming onto your property all the time, do you?
I didn’t know it was allowed to place a private mailbox on public land. It wouldn’t work for us anyway, since our property directly borders the street with no sidewalk. (see photo) My nice mailbox would probably get hit pretty quickly. ;-) Mean, very mean drivers. ;-)

That’s convenient. 🙂

If the property is fenced, then of course the mailbox is at the front gate; if access is open, then often it’s placed near the front door.

That only works if your property is unfenced.
As things stand, I will try to keep our property unfenced. I think having a fence makes a property feel smaller and more cramped. If it’s not practical, then we’ll put a fence or hedge on the two remaining open sides at the back and front. (Neighbors have fences, plants, hedges on the right and left.)

Paved street in the foreground, grass area, row of trees and blue sky with clouds.

My parents have a mailbox built directly into the door unit, so you don’t have to go outside at all to collect the mail. I think that’s very convenient.

Yes, that used to be common. With KfW-related requirements, it’s less common now or just not affordable anymore. Although a stylish mailbox mounted on the facade can also be quite expensive.

And luckily also garden gates without a handle, to keep out roof renovators, winter garden sales teams, and the like
I don’t understand. It doesn’t matter whether he is standing at the front door or at the garden gate while you communicate with him via intercom. 🙄

I consider myself capable enough to personally throw them off the property. And anyone seriously trying to sell a conservatory with our window fronts...

Mine is in the garage. That’s pretty practical too.

For us, a fantastic property, it's about 50m (165 feet) to the gate, and no one is supposed to come in without ringing first.
