This is the utility connection box. There were long discussions with the city about it. It must be freely accessible to technicians in case of emergency, which is why it was not allowed to be placed in the carport (which would have been my preferred location).
The reasoning was that they might install a garage door at some point in the future, and then the city would no longer be able to access the box 🙄And why does the technician need access to the box? In our case, the main connection goes through the multi-service entry in the basement (of course underground), so it’s not visible...

Well, right up to the property line, where it doesn't bother anyone. And where would that be in my case? There, it would bother more people than the utility box. By the way, the cover is also available for plastering. I’m definitely going to get one.

I was told that the fire department also needs access in case of a fire to disconnect the electricity to the house.
As I said, I had endless discussions with the city and ultimately had to accept their requirements.
I was just wondering how the technicians here are supposed to access the utility connection without us – it’s located in the basement.
But I probably wouldn’t have wanted to go through endless and pointless discussions with some city employee either, and would have just accepted it like Alessandro. There are more important things during construction. I’d probably also get a cover for plastering – or simply place a flower pot in front of it for the time being. Or some seasonal decoration around Christmas. Unless it really bothers someone (I don’t know if it would bother me that much).

Alessandro19 Nov 2020 08:28My wife wants to put a bench there.
I hardly notice the box anymore...
I'm glad her car is always so dirty, so no one really looks at the box :p
