The block is 1.30m (4 ft 3 in) wide. The length of the block was determined by the maximum length of the natural stone. Otherwise, the countertop would have needed a seam, which we wanted to avoid.
In the other picture, you can see the “stand” that we can place in the sink. As mentioned, it can be used for cutting and preparation. Show-off

Wow, the view.
At first, I thought the idea of having a cutting stone in the sink was kind of cool too – but after thinking it over, I dismissed it for two reasons: first, I don’t want to ruin my good knives on the stone, and second, I find it really practical to position my cutting board on the countertop right above the organic waste cabinet with the waste system underneath. After chopping, I just open the drawer and sweep the scraps in. That’s not possible with the cutting block in the sink anymore. But overall, it’s a cool concept!
Our island is also 3.20 meters (10.5 feet) long – unfortunately, we have a joint in the natural stone. You really managed to get yours that long? Very nice!

Yes, but it wasn’t easy since the fronts are also made of stone. The process of selecting the natural stone took weeks, especially because we were advised against this stone due to its sensitivity to acids. Your post in the kitchen thread back then encouraged me to take the risk anyway. Until yesterday, I was nervous whether everything would go smoothly without cracks.
Whether the cutting block will prove useful will show in everyday use. For me, it’s simply an extension of the workspace between the sink and the cooking area. We still have the base cabinet with the waste system on the right side of the sink. I’m curious to see how it works!
