Hello IKEA expert (or whoever else is reading this message…),
is it possible to achieve this with standard IKEA items, or does it require custom work? And what special materials are needed?

I’m asking because the IKEA fitter is currently at our home installing the countertop and still has a few finishing tasks to do, including the sink/waste bin combination.
At the IKEA store, we were told that it is NOT possible to make the 60x60cm (24x24 inches) drawer look like two separate drawers of 20x60cm (8x24 inches) and 40x60cm (16x24 inches).
I would prefer this look because my partially integrated dishwasher next to the combo has a 20cm (8 inches) high folding mechanism at the bottom, and if the above solution was possible, I would have a uniform appearance that is less visually busy.

So what is correct? Sometimes I get the impression that the IKEA employees themselves are not entirely sure what is possible with Metod and what isn’t…

I assume you are looking for

Two metal rails with rows of holes, suitable for drawer runners.

This connecting rail aligns the drawer front with the other fronts and ensures a seamless appearance in the kitchen.

Edit:
I found the rail in the assembly instructions for
Modern white or light gray kitchen/bathroom base cabinet with two front doors and one top drawer

METOD / Maximera
Base cabinet for sink/3 fronts/2 drawers, white, Veddinge gray

The picture shows the 20mm (0.8 inch) rail on top, and the 40mm (1.6 inch) rail below. However, I see no reason why it couldn’t also be used the other way around with this rail.

It might be possible that not all drill holes fit perfectly for the tall MAXIMERA drawer, but this is not an insurmountable problem. Please share your experiences.

I have the pull-out unit under the sink fitted with a 60 cm (24 inch) door in front. There is a special fitting for this (I don’t have the article number at hand), which comes with a drilling template, because the door does not have any pre-drilled holes at all. After all, it’s just a door with only the pre-milled hinge recesses.

The same applies for the waste bin insert, which also requires additional drilling in the door.

This really should not be a problem. You just need to measure precisely if no template is provided.

For 20cm (8 inches) and 40cm (16 inches) fronts, all the necessary holes are pre-drilled, so no template is provided. The 20cm (8 inches) front does not fit on the tall pull-out drawer, so it’s possible that a combined front may not have holes in the required positions. However, this is not a major issue because the bracket for the railing can still be installed, especially since the connecting rail should already have holes in the correct spots.

This information is intended primarily for less experienced DIYers or for those having their kitchen installed who might receive incorrect advice from the contractors.

Hi,
I’m new here and considering buying a Metod kitchen. I came across a similar issue with the 80cm (31.5 inches) Domsjö:

The matching base cabinet has 2 doors, but I would prefer an electric drawer, like the one shown in the catalog. How can this be done?

Do you install a Maximera drawer and connect both doors, or do you buy a 40x80cm (16x31.5 inches) front and mount a 20cm (8 inches) drawer front on top as a cover panel?

Best regards,
Joachim
