Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

a lot of theory

I read a book about kitchen design, really interesting, the author planned our kitchen (only a small change was made).

His theory seemed totally understandable to *me*.

Well, have fun cooking.

I’ll put it another way... I really don’t want to say this, but this kitchen will be quite impractical.
I see it very differently... this kitchen will be very practical.

I really like the surfaces and the grid layout. However, I would find it too limiting. There are walls everywhere. It may seem "open" on one side, but when cooking, you’re enclosed on three sides.
Who can comfortably reach the upper drawers?

@opalau please look away!!

- always turning toward the stove = water drops on the floor
- splashes behind the cooktop
- facing a wall when standing at the stove
- long distances between the cooktop and the oven = in my opinion, these paths should be kept as short as possible, also for safety reasons
- when standing at the sink, you always have your back to guests or household members

That’s why I asked if it was an open or closed kitchen; in my opinion, an open kitchen was turned into a closed one.

Of course, this is all subjective, and I hope the owner doesn’t think the same. It’s unfortunate to hear such criticism afterward, especially since it can’t be changed anymore, but I just find it a shame.

Interesting perspective (haha). This might also be because I have taken almost all photos from the open side. So far, it hasn’t felt restrictive to us—on one side is the large living area of about 60m² (645 sq ft), opposite that is the big 2x2.2m (6 ft 7 in x 7 ft 3 in) window, currently still covered with a protective film. I think that’s manageable.

True. The top drawer in the quasi space tower is going to be quite a challenge!

@tumaa ...
Who is dripping water on the floor?
The oven is conveniently located near the island, and otherwise, I don’t need it to be within the immediate work triangle.

Unlike the annoying and now very popular island cooktops with downdraft vents and the risk of cross drafts affecting the extraction of steam and cooking odors, this design features a great recessed niche. The steam hardly escapes.
It has an extra-deep countertop in the cooktop niche.

Neither at the cooktop nor at the sink do you stand with your back to the dining/living area; instead, you always have a sideways view.

Around the sink, this island comfortably accommodates 2 to 3 people working together. Even at the cooktop, 2 people can work simultaneously alongside the 2 to 3 people around the sink.

And not everyone needs a show kitchen.
