Seriously. It’s not about having a longer lever or a personal sense of power.
I just noticed that this doesn’t seem to be common practice. However, I don’t understand why people are reading all kinds of things into it.
My costs are exactly as we agreed, so I have no stress worrying about whether it could have affected the price.
If a structural contractor, or whoever, could have done it for less, the answer is always yes. But whether everything runs smoothly is another matter.

Crazy. If I were a contractor, I would have lost it with your architect. Absurd. Retention of security funds is a very common practice, especially when the trades are reputable. However, it is important to understand that this retention is always factored into the pricing to some extent.
If someone doesn’t want it, they simply don’t get it. The contractor is usually fine with that.

If you don’t want that, you won’t get it. The trade might actually be happy about that. You just have to be aware that those few percent for the security deposit might be added on top. If you’re okay with that and the trade agrees, then everything is fine. I simply don’t need that and am not willing to pay more for it.The plasterers are surprisingly preparing everything already today. Electricians will come on Saturday. Photos will follow over the next few days.
