Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Has anyone dealt with the topic of roof overhang?

I am considering 30, 40, 50, or 60 cm (12, 16, 20, or 24 inches).
What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Thanks to you all.

The larger it is, the more the facade is protected from rain and other weather conditions. In summer, for example, we even have shade in the upper floor thanks to the overhang.

With an 80cm (32 inch) overhang, you can leave the window open when it rains without rain coming inside.

However, the appearance is a matter of personal taste; shorter overhangs tend to look more modern.

The disadvantage is that overhangs of 50 cm (20 inches) or more count towards the floor area ratio.

Then I’d like to share a few pictures of our house.

It’s not really my style, but congratulations on the beautiful house. The view over the fields is amazing [emoji1303]

And yes, if I didn’t have children, I would probably build like that too. But why not have the pool outside, or is something else planned?

No, nothing else is planned. We had the pool outside for over a year, and it’s just not very comfortable in winter to go to the pool in a bathrobe, especially with slushy snow, drizzle, or rain. That’s why we have the large conservatory in front of the pool and the 2.20m (7.2 ft) balcony in front of that, to create a bit of an outdoor feeling.

@Metalwerner: I meant the cladding on the terrace side.
What is it exactly, and is it, like the plaster, a sandwich layer or a traditional ventilated construction?

@munger71: Looking toward the neighbor and the field, it seems like you’ve built up the ground quite a bit, nearly 1 m (3 feet) or so?

I agree. By the way, a house is much more than the sum of all detail questions. It doesn’t get better or more beautiful just because more individual parameters or elements are optimized.
