Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Our site fill is now complete, everything is ready for the foundation slab next week. I didn’t expect that with the extension we would end up so high above ground level.....

A 50cm (20 inches) high natural stone wall or gabion baskets will be added below, although I don’t find gabions particularly attractive; it depends on the price. Otherwise, the sides will remain as they are for now.

The earthworks contractor and the structural engineer said that no support is needed, a 200 kN load plate bearing test at the corners was fine... but we want a straight finish at the bottom.

That looks very fine-grained. With an undermining (a pipe break is enough), I would expect it to collapse like a soufflé. Nowadays, a lot of embankments are made where I think: someone has probably never seen a landslide before.

This is 0-45 frost protection gravel, but I don’t share your concerns. Everything is correct here. We are only that high in the last third of the extension; where the underground pipes will be, we are on a 60cm (24 inches) gravel base.
