How long had you not let them outside?Just under 2 weeks. Otherwise, we would have been allowed to renovate. However, I’m sure they would have returned even after 4 or 6 weeks. I’ve seen this with foster cats that were cared for over several weeks—they suddenly disappear. Usually, you find them again in the barn they originally came from.

A train runs every hour in both directions. And twice a day there is a freight train. Even on weekends?
Fortunately, it’s just a short interruption, and I think with the right measures, you wouldn’t notice anything inside the house at all.
Our kids are already older, the youngest is now 7 years old. If everything goes well, we’ll move at the end of February/beginning of March, when the weather isn’t so nice yet, so they won’t be outside constantly. I hope that helps with settling in…
All five are rescue cats, and we haven’t lost a single one.
(and the fact that you don’t slip as much on natural wood flooring as you do on the perfectly smooth laminate *g*, plus the floor heating makes the floor so nice and warm)

But these are all the new multiple-unit trains. In some cases, the cars on the village street are louder. You won’t hear anything inside the house at all. I have proactively installed a ventilation system in the house.
And whenever I was on-site, it was over within 5 seconds. If at all. So I haven’t found it disturbing yet.
My parents live about 400m (440 yards) away. Even there, you can hear the train, sometimes noticeably longer, due to sound propagation.
