Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Hello matte, your house really looks very elegant.

I have 2 questions

Which manufacturer are the windows and doors from?
(They have nicely slim frames, or does it just look like that?)

How high is your ceiling height? (measured)

The manufacturer of the windows/doors is Aluplast, specifically the Ideal 8000 series.

Our ceiling height is consistently 2.50 meters (8 ft 2 in). It might appear higher due to the wide-angle lens. However, it is completely sufficient for our room sizes. What also makes a big difference are the higher interior doors (2.20 m / 7 ft 3 in) and the fact that the lintels above the exterior windows and doors are only 8 cm (3 inches) high. To achieve this, the roller shutter boxes were pushed up into the concrete ceiling.

I think this staircase looks absolutely great visually!! However, I would never feel relaxed walking on it like that. Anyone can trip - and then you have no handrail to hold on to. I find that almost a bit careless - even without children. But everyone has to decide for themselves, as I said visually it’s top-notch, but is that enough?

You also have to consider that we only have half staircases here.
I understand not wanting to go without a handrail, but we don’t miss it at all. The only person who misses it is my wife’s grandmother, who is 90 years old; however, she hardly ever visits and we didn’t build the house for her.
Regarding children, I won’t comment here on the forum anyway...

Toddlers usually cannot reach the standard handrails anyway, so they end up leaning on the wall instead.

Or they do pull-ups. That’s why we won’t be installing a handrail for now.

What people can be afraid of these days. Thanks, Internet

So the handrail topic is about the only thing I find really reasonable. In the chemical industry, the use of handrails is standard. The goal is zero accidents; incidents on the way to work play a big role, especially on stairs. I would not do without a handrail. ... But everyone is free to decide!

We will get one, just not right away. Without a handrail, my little one climbs the stairs well and safely; with one, not so much.

Alex, this has nothing to do with the internet for us. These are based on experience.
