Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Solid oak, 280 x 110 cm (110 x 43 inches)
Approximately 1500 euros. I have not received the final invoice yet.

I also dream of having such a beautiful, large solid wood table. I do love our current one, though; it's solid beech, 160cm by 90cm (63 inches by 35 inches) with two 50cm (20 inch) extension leaves. But I would really like to have a table that is 2.5 to 3 meters (8 to 10 feet) long and at least 1 meter (39 inches) deep someday.

The dining table arrived from the carpenter yesterday
That is really beautiful!! We have a similar one, slightly smaller at 2.20 x 1.00 meters (7.2 x 3.3 feet), but extendable up to 3.20 meters (10.5 feet), made of solid core beech. I especially like the simple design—no strange metal legs or steel supports... just four solid wood legs, a wooden tabletop, done! And the price is good.

It was a tip from an employee. The custom-made bathroom cabinet from the carpenter was cheaper than the only off-the-shelf one that fit reasonably well.

I can confirm this experience. We had a mirror cabinet and an additional bathroom cabinet custom-made by a carpenter and ended up about one third cheaper compared to similar ready-made furniture.

What I don’t like about the carpenter-made furniture is its durability – it doesn’t keep up with changing tastes over time. The furniture from my childhood is still in good condition after fifty years and five moves. This can also be a curse: eventually, you might get tired of seeing it, but throwing it away feels wrong. Meanwhile, the ugly pieces from the ’90s have almost made their way to the recycling center on their own after just two moves.
