Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Raclette is usually not a problem.
However, with fondue—especially the type using fat and vegetables—you need to be very careful. The water in the vegetables can cause the fat to splatter significantly. We are constantly reminded of this by a grease stain on the ceiling above the dining table 🙂

Then your ceilings must be very low. 😀 But the splattering fat wasn’t really meant here, either.

It’s funny that hardly anyone would think of placing an electric or gas grill on the dining table to bring the summer grilling experience indoors. Yet, apparently, that’s exactly what a raclette is for...

2.50m (8 feet 2 inches). So, neither low nor high. Just normal.

No one is really talking about installing a ventilation hood specifically for raclette 🙂

From what I’ve learned here, some people are bothered by crumbs in their spice rack or knife block and instead have a spice drawer and knives on a magnetic strip. Possible grease buildup or deposits on a spice rack near the cooktop have also been mentioned...

Your question isn’t really about whether you live in a new build or not. Of course, raclette—depending on how it’s used—produces odors or even grease mist. In our case, it’s mostly odors and hardly any grease mist because we don’t grill on it. Raclette is a cheese dish, not a meat platter with a bit of cheese. But everyone does it differently.

You might imagine the ventilation system helps a bit with this. What really works well is to open the sliding door and front door after eating to get some fresh air through.

Because electric grilling is generally not great, and the outdoor grill on the terrace doesn’t suddenly break down in winter ;-)

No 🙂

What really works well, though, is opening the sliding door and the front door after eating to create a good cross breeze.

However, that doesn’t help with grease that has already settled—assuming there actually is a significant amount of it in the steam.

A small note: this is not about whether it annoys me personally, but rather that I have repeatedly encountered very controversial opinions on this topic.

Because electric grilling is just silly anyway

Exactly! 🙂

But raclette is also a form of electric grilling.
