So far, I have never had a cheap one fail.That definitely depends on what is connected to it. With certain devices, very cheap (really low-quality) power strips can easily become overloaded. This is always critical when there are high power surges.

Yes, there were quite a few complaints about defective power adapters. But nothing beyond that ever happened. Just replaced the adapter and that was it. With the power strip, it was luck that nothing worse happened.
But it doesn’t matter, everyone acts according to their own experience.
