Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

What do you usually spend on a power strip?

So far, I have never had a cheap one fail.
That definitely depends on what is connected to it.
With certain devices, very cheap (really low-quality) power strips can easily become overloaded. This is always critical when there are high power surges.

Even then, nothing happens. The wiring is protected by circuit breakers. These usually provide additional separate protection.

I’ve seen cheap power strips fail—burned out. The smell is terrible. Fortunately, nothing worse happened. Since then, I’ve been cautious and now only use ones with overload and voltage protection.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t help you much. Any laptop or phone power adapter is a much greater risk. In fact, any plugged-in device.

I don’t see it that way. I sold those things for years. Yes, there were quite a few complaints about defective power adapters. But nothing beyond that ever happened. Just replaced the adapter and that was it.
With the power strip, it was luck that nothing worse happened.
But it doesn’t matter, everyone acts according to their own experience.

After the Ritter family has been popping up here repeatedly for three days, I just had to look them up as well. I probably should have left it alone!
