The best architects break symmetry for a good cause, and the appearance remains wonderful.I absolutely believe you on that. But we can’t afford the best architects.Pinkiponk schrieb:

Symmetry between the upper floor and the ground floor is sometimes interrupted anyway by, for example, awnings, pergolas, or conservatories. ... As soon as we have our drawings, I will share them here. So far, we have not planned a conservatory, awning, or pergola directly attached to the house.

Maybe he will steer us away from symmetry by suggesting appealing alternatives. I know that symmetry is currently out of style and that more interesting, dynamic, and stimulating designs are preferred.Pinkiponk schrieb:

I know symmetry is currently out of fashion What exactly does "steer away" mean in this context? – Do you currently have only a vague preference for symmetry, or do you already have a concrete symmetrical preliminary design in mind?
They say the first house is built for an enemy, the second for a friend, and the third for yourself – so the fourth house built just to follow fashion can be skipped.
Symmetry is not a value in itself – neither positive nor negative. Symmetry itself is therefore not bad, counterproductive, or detrimental. It just isn't a guarantee of aesthetics (and even the more significant proportion alone does not guarantee that), and what should be cautioned against is the symmetry dogma. If symmetry is not subordinated to anything, it doesn’t harm anything either. By the way, something slightly forgotten today: in earlier times, churches that were considered particularly beautiful were regarded as blasphemous if they had perfect symmetry.
