One of the two stretched canvas frames can be seen at #6,584, page 1098.
We have 2 pieces on the ground floor, approximately 150 cm (60 inches) high and 91 and 55 cm (36 and 22 inches) wide.
Even just these two already break what I would call the reflective "ping-pong hall" effect.
The principle is to use fabric to break sound reflections (similar to what curtains and carpets do). The larger the fabric surface, the more effective it is.
A simple test would be to pin or hold a fabric sheet or towel on the wall (for testing purposes). That should already help.
The final fabric should be lightfast (which jute, for example, is not).
We specifically ordered linen (from flax, not cotton) from a weaving mill in Ireland.
It is a heavy upholstery fabric in blue-green (color "inky Pool"), quite thick at about 550 grams per square meter (18 ounces per square yard) – whether lighter fabric also breaks sound as effectively, I can only assume. Canvas with a printed image might also work but needs to be sufficiently large. We wanted fabric only, plain and single-colored, without any image design.
(By the way: the linen production tradition in Ireland is historically very interesting!)

Are there any special considerations?
Or can I simply have photos printed on canvas from any online store?
In my new build, I also have acoustic issues in almost every room.
I want to address this with curtains and acoustic panels. For our gallery, we use several acoustic pictures (google -> akustikbilder manufaktur). I can highly recommend them. They really help. However, each costs a few thousand euros.

Even these two have at least broken the — I’ll call it the reflective "ping-pong hall" effect.
That’s the principle: using fabric to reduce sound reflections (like curtains and carpets would). The larger the fabric surface, the more effective it is.
A simple test would be to pin or hold a sheet or towel on the wall to check. That should already help.

A canvas with a picture could also work, but it needs to be large enough. We specifically wanted plain fabric, not a printed image.
(By the way: the linen production in Ireland has a very interesting historical background!) What price range would such a piece of fabric art be in?
Did you make and stretch the frames yourself?
Materials cost around 100 euros plus tools and shipping.
I had stretcher frames custom-made, a slightly thicker version with 4.2 x 2.8 cm (1.7 x 1.1 inches) battens, measuring 151 x 91 cm (59.4 x 35.8 inches), which cost about 35 euros. Slats are not much cheaper but cannot be tightened. Only with a stretcher frame can the fabric be tightened at the corners and crossbars using the wedges once it is attached. There are plenty of videos on YouTube about this.
Linen fabric costs 25 euros per square meter.
I stretched the fabric myself using a stretching tool (20 euros) and a stapler set from Aldi (about 8 euros). Then added sawtooth picture hangers. Done. The total cost is quite reasonable.
