Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Dinner is enjoying its bath in Guinness surrounded by warm coals

Round, rusty fire bowl with coal remnants; shovel next to it, snowy yard.

I guess I need to drink more coffee...
I looked at the picture and wondered what kind of stew with those gray, moldy-looking balls inside it was. Zoomed in... Still couldn’t figure it out... Stared at it for about 20 seconds, and then my brain finally clicked that it was actually the lid with coals on it.

Dutch oven with coals on top and bottom. Inside rests a pork neck.

Today, a hot pot would be a dream.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a hot spring on the property.

We visited the stonemason today and chose the interior window sills. Somehow, I prefer using local specialized contractors. It’s really enjoyable to discuss the details with the people involved and to decide on every single aspect ourselves.

So tiling, window sills, and paving are just around the corner...
I’m excited.

From late August to early January, there were earthworks and foundations. Now the first lasting visible element is taking shape. I’m happy to share this with you.

Here is the wall next to the kitchen entrance. Above it, the bedroom and bathroom are at ground level.

This is the boulder wall at the main entrance on the ground floor (you enter from the north side; the slope of the site creates a kind of natural hallway at the entrance).

And here is a winter view from the future kitchen and dining area. We’re already looking forward to it.
