I was very interested in this during the planning phase. But it definitely involved additional costs that my general contractor was not willing to specify yet. After he quoted me higher prices for a different facade color (2-3 thousand euros) and shutters (800 each), I didn’t pursue it further.
Then I considered whether we could do it ourselves. Real reveals are recessed from the plaster, which would have meant attaching strips in front of the exterior plasterer, so he would leave those areas clear, and then we would have to plaster and paint the surfaces ourselves later. Alternatively, applied strips, meaning protruding bands—attaching Styrofoam strips and painting over them.
My father-in-law said that dirt would get stuck on those. Being pragmatic, he simply did “fake reveals” on his house, meaning he painted a frame around the window opening in a different color.
At another house, I saw someone had painted the entire window jamb, and we found that visually very appealing as well.
So we’ll probably do something between fake reveals and painting the jamb. But only much later.

You can also spray some water on it with the garden hose sometimes – after weeks of dry weather, I do this occasionally.
This year it wasn’t necessary 😉
And no, not brown, our variety is as red as in the photo. However, next time I would do it differently – the gardening company called it a “sprout mix.” But it turned out to be just one variety. That’s why I manually added some other plants in between. It annoys me a bit that I didn’t follow up on it and just assumed it was a mix of several varieties.

That would actually be the perfect house for @kati1337 Is it for sale?
We’ve just had a longer conversation with the neighbor again and made some arrangements (like I send him a message if I want to take a bath, etc.), but I still haven’t fully overcome the “flight reflex.”
We currently have an upswing in our income situation, I earn significantly more, and my husband possibly will in about six to nine months. We are seriously considering investing again and taking another look at the dream of an old farmhouse in the countryside.
Not only for the idyll I hope for (far away from noisy neighbors with loud music), but also because it would bring other advantages. More space for hobbies, I’m dreaming of a converted attic or a workshop for games and arcade machines. My husband wants a home gym. A shed for woodworking and creative projects. Peace and quiet with a large, overgrown garden...
It’s not impossible. However, we wouldn’t want to give up today’s “standards” anymore. I’m wondering if it’s possible to fully renovate an old, dilapidated farmstead into our dream home. For us, that definitely includes underfloor heating, a central ventilation system, air conditioning, an air-to-water heat pump, and proper insulation. Is something like this realistic without winning the lottery? (we’re cautiously playing the lottery just in case)

...Many things are possible. But keep in mind that you might not be able to contribute much work-wise.Your post shows me that with rising income, expectations increase (now wanting a bigger house). Afterwards, due to higher costs, you end up just as "poor" as before.
