Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

While not this, in our house there is a kind of unexplainable magic that clothes from the laundry basket get washed and neatly folded, then reappear in my wardrobe. I am very grateful for that.

Luckily, I don’t have to do it myself.

Or maybe combined with a friendly invitation from the magician for a glass of wine?

My wife decorated the stairwell (I wonder if we can add more decoration around the window?):

Bright hallway with stairs, window with an orchid on the windowsill and a potted plant.

And a hint of spring is growing around the house:

Gray planter with cut stems from which green shoots are sprouting, planted in soil.

Hello,

Our neighbors have three boys (real little rascals…) and the two older ones first tested if the youngest could fit through. Result: he fit! 🙂

On another note, how do you make a shaft soundproof? In our utility room, the heating system, ventilation unit, and what feels like the washer and dryer running three times a day are noisy. I definitely wouldn’t want that noise to carry up to the upper floor...

Best regards,

Andreas
No problem at all if done correctly. Definitely build it with masonry and then install with a PVC sewer pipe. Proper insulation in between is essential. Also, there must be covers at both the top and bottom. The bottom cover should have a spring or weight mechanism so it closes automatically.

Such a setup costs about 500 euros in materials if you do it yourself. If you hire someone, expect roughly 2,500 to 4,000 euros.

How funny it is that everyone interprets decoration and spring differently (although I also tend to keep spring decor quite minimal 😉 )

Colorful tulips in glass vases on wooden table, eucalyptus branch on the left, blurred living area in the background.

Lavender plants in a black basket at the front; blurred interior with table and chairs.

Table with vases of green flowers, candle, hanging lamps and houseplants in the background.

Flowers in two silver vases on wooden table, wall wreath on the left, glass door on the right.

Rustic shabby-chic wooden furniture with two turquoise glass bottles, basket and plant.

Two succulents in gray terracotta pots in front of a stone wall; wooden sign with text.

Living room corner with wicker armchair, gray upholstery, round wooden tray, green candles and eucalyptus vase.

Thanks, they actually look very similar to yours.
But not the price 🙁 ... and I have to say: Yvonne, your Jäll from Ikea for 4.99 still works really great 😀
Can you imagine how much I sweated cutting out the floor 😀

... I’d love to invite you to decorate once my place is finished :p
I’ll provide not only the budget but also a (of course full) bottle of red wine that’s hidden in one of my threads.
