Treat yourself... how can anyone be against a fireplace?! What could be more beautiful than fire . That just digs into my wounds... I really wanted one, but my husband and our general contractor dismissed it as nonsense.
Today, it’s truly the only thing I would still like to have. And my husband even came to like it in a log cabin—but oh well, too late.
Now we’re going to make a fire pit outside in front of a window, so at least I can watch the fire from there *sob*

We’re going to build an outdoor fireplace in front of a window, so at least I can watch the fire there *cry* At least it’s a compromise.
What about an external chimney? (Messy for the appearance)
An uncle said, "I wanted a tile stove for baked apples." An aunt said, "I wanted one for heating."
Now it’s been decommissioned. We used it twice in 35 years.
Open fire outside, yes, that makes my pyromaniac heart beat faster.
Indoors, no – I don’t like it. And that kind of heat, no way.

My parents had a traditional masonry stove installed (there used to be an open fireplace, which was popular in the 1970s—but unfortunately really inefficient. In front of the fire it was extremely hot, behind it cold, heating output was practically zero, it always had to be monitored, and afterwards the whole place smelled like smoke), and to this day it still heats about half the house. I love the radiant heat from the masonry stove and always wanted one myself. However, I had to admit that it wouldn’t work for us, since we both leave the house early and come back relatively late. In winter, if the stove is to be used as a primary heat source, it has to be heated in the morning, then it needs to burn down before it can be closed off. If we get home late in the evening, it’s already cooled down, and it takes a good hour to warm up—by then we are usually heading to bed, unfortunately. So that really ruled it out because it’s not practical for us. But I would have liked a small show stove, with low heating output but a clear view of the fire.
You can also make baked apples in the stove pipe—I don’t like them either way.

My parents used to heat a living area of 120 sqm (1300 sq ft) with a tiled stove. It was actually quite comfortable. No, it's not suitable for people who work full-time.
I don't care for masonry heaters. However, I do love my outdoor fire, enjoying a pot of coffee by the flames.
