Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

I really like travertine, but we drink so much red wine that I don’t want it anywhere near my living areas. 🙂 My husband once managed to stain a marble slab in a hotel using mouthwash. Since then, I’ve been wary of light-colored natural stones.

I prefer it to be easier to clean rather than very rustic.
You can still clean it – what you can’t remove remains authentic! 😉

Travertine can be sealed. After that, you can clean it with normal mopping.

Are you talking about the mold in the pores and holes? Please no, otherwise the mice will move in permanently. Or the cockroaches.

Also authentic! 😀 everything that gives the atmosphere of a medieval castle!

I can highly recommend dark (anthracite) floor tiles in the bathroom combined with light wall tiles (we have light gray). It just looks stylish and timeless. For a narrow bathroom, I also prefer laying the tiles horizontally and recommend tiling up to about 1.2m (4 feet) high, except in the shower area. In my opinion, this looks more modern when only partial tiling is done. But of course, it’s all a matter of personal taste.

Very small bathrooms can actually feel even smaller with this approach… whether dark floors will still look timeless in 20 years remains to be seen. Trends change quickly.
